Loading...
3/5/04- There is a 10mm gap between the wing skin and the filler. The cap will have to be modified to accomodate this.
Loading...
3/5/04- The tank wired up and installed for the last time.
Loading...
3/5/04- The sending unit ready to be installed on the tank.
Loading...
3/4/04- This is the modified, shortened, welded sender. Before and after photos of the sender. (Before is a "typical" photo.)
Loading...
3/4/04- After testing the fuel tank sender, I noticed it wasn't getting a good ground and it was too long for top-mounting.

3/1/04- The tank inside the wing.

12/29/03- Back to porcupine mode.
Loading...
12/29/03- I made a template from a thin strip of aluminum to mark the holes to make sure I missed the crimps in the ribs.
Loading...
12/27/03- The wing is jigged square and securely fastened in place. This is necessary before installing the wing skin.
Loading...
12/20/03- Holes.
Loading...
12/20/03- This is finally starting to look like a wing.

12/6/03- All of the fittings to be welded to the tanks.

11/29/03- Beads are added to the tanks for strength.
11/29/03- The fit is checked with the tank ends. Trimming was saved for last. 11/29/03- More bending, checking drawings before each bend.
11/28/03- The completed tank ends for left and right wing tanks. 11/28/03- Forms and a template for the fuel tank ends 11/26/03- Priming the rib parts. 11/26/03- I finally got the nose ribs attached and drilled to the spar. 11/25/03- The aileron controls are installed on Rib #7.
11/21/03- This is a lot easier to do before the wing is assembled. One left light assembly and one right assembly. 11/20/03- Making some "baby" ribs for the landing light option. My plane gets lights on both wings. 11/11/03- The wing rear channels. One done, one to go. 11/7/03- This is my solid rivet tool. It's a $25 arbor press from Harbor Freight. The bellcranks are shown with four solid rivets installed. 10/25/03- Rib number 7 with a coat of zinc oxide.
10/25/03- I spent two hours making a 16.5mm spacer. I milled it out of a Corvair Piston. A 3/16 drill bit makes a good alignment pin. 10/24/03- Outboard spars bolted to the center spar. 10/19/03- Drilling the spar attachment holes with the help of a paper template drawn in VISIO. 10/12/03- Zinc Chromate green, Tip attached. 10/11/03- Drilling a few holes in the Spar Tip.
10/6/03- A little practice with the new bender produces a spar tip. Now if I could just match Jason's green paint. 10/5/03- Jason Isley made my spars. Thanks Jason for the excellent workmanship. 9/27/03- Bell Crank Supports for Rib #7. The one on the right is finished. 9/16/03- Stiffeners are added to the ribs for strength. 9/14/03- Here's a rib in the forming blocks. The Clamps are removed to show the bend.
9/13/03- My new rib form collection. An interesting photo illustrating how the wing tapers. 9/13/03- Here's a closeup of the neat little cutouts the router makes to accomodate the crimps. 9/13/03- The router was handy to have today. 9/10/03- This tool is becoming my new best friend. My drill press didn't have the "swing" for the ribs, but the mini-mill had plenty of room. 9/9/03- A stack-O-ribforms.
9/7/03- One weekend of progress. 9/6/03- This stack of rib templates shows how the wing changes shape from inboard to outboard. 9/6/03- Making the rough cut on full-size templates. 9/4/03-Two rear ribs. One with flanged holes and one without. 16 more to go. 8/31/03-I spent the day re-building my worktable to be 12' long, then I cut two 12' lenghts of .025 for my wing rear channels.
7_12_03_Cutting out paper templates for the rib forms. 6_19_03- Nose Ribs safely stored awaiting assembly. 6_19_03 - 16 Completed Nose Ribs. 6_8_03 - A nicely flanged hole. Thanks goes to Aaron Carr for the hole flangers! 6_14_03 - Using the Hole Flanger.
6_8_03 - Hole Flanging tool in action. 6_8_03 - The lightening holes are easly cut with a sharp fly cutter and a drill press on slow speed. 6_8_03 - My first wing rib. The wings are officially started. 6_8_03 - The bending process is the same as I did for the stabilizer ribs. 6_8_03 - Here is a cut-out wing rib sandwiched between the two forms ready for bending.
5_27_03 - After a little more work - I put a plate on the back - I made one pair wrong, so I used them on the back for reinforcement. 5/26/03 - The form block is sanded to match the face plate. Cut the form block a little (slightly) large so final sanding will produce an exact copy. Next will be the 1/8" radius on the aluminum. 5/26/03 - After making a wood forming block with a 10 deg. angle, the 1/8" face plates are clamped, drilled, countersunk, then screwed to the face of the blocks. 3/8/03 - A full-scale template is made on paper, then glued to wood for the template and another is glued for the forming blocks.
